about

The album presents work by composers Seamus Cater, Tomás Cabado, Eva-Maria Houben, and Johan Lindvall, written for solo voice and duo with instruments. This is Volume 1 of the project ‘Different Songs’, devised to share songs of similar nature: gentle, quiet, in some ways strange, in some ways haunting, and in the end ‘different’.

The voice was recorded in my room I've been living in for a couple of months, at the famous brutalist Alexandra & Ainsworth Estate in London, a former council housing block stretched above and along the railways. The recordings captured occasional trains passing by under my window, and it felt like a necessary additional layer to the music.
The guitar played in Johan Lindvall’s songs was recorded by Tomás Cabado quite far from the physical location of the voice, in Buenos Aires. The piano in Cabado’s songs was played by Tim Parkinson somewhere in London, separately from voice. Lost in space and time, the performance, however, seemed to be able to overcome those distances. Perhaps, the sound of a train somehow symbolises this arrangement.
